Painting with Light...

You may be detecting some themes of this blog. This is of course a place to journal about my pregnancy experience, track my belly growth, etc. We also use it to document our house projects. The other theme you may be picking up on is that I often use this as a platform to brag about my husband. From his chess endeavors, to his home improvement skills, to his amazing academic achievements, (not to mention how well he takes care of me and baby) I guess you could say I am a proud and thankful wife.

This weekend just added to the repertoire of Jon's multifaceted talents. Some of you may know that he has a passion for photography and this has been something we both have wanted him to pursue to the next level. He had the offer to display some of his work at the coffee shop he works at, and last night was the opening night of his art show. To add to the fun, his talented sister Susan joined him in a combined show and displayed her paintings as well. It was a lot of Buck fun all around!

Jon's show was called Painting with Light and displayed 10 of his abstract photographs. Here is the story of the night in pictures.... (please be aware that I was taking all these pics and probably should have used the flash... Clearly I am NOT the photographer of the family!)

Amanda is the assistant manager at Solid Grounds and a wonderful friend. She organized the art opening and put together this lovely and delicious spread for all the guests to enjoy as they perused the art.
Jon is discussing some of his pictures with a friend. Jon had his photographs on display in the main room, and this particular wall held his series of 8x10 frames. They looked really good displayed as a series like this. (And I won't mention whose idea it was to hang them together this way..... hehe)
Jon hung 5 of his prints as stretched canvases and they looked really good.
Here is Aunt Soupy showing off her display. Her art was shown in the second room, so it was a good separation of the paintings and photography, but still worked as a shared show. People were so impressed by her talent!
A close up of a few of Susan's paintings. Her theme was Trees and it was impressive to see how much variety she was able to achieve with this simple theme. Susan literally thinks something up in her head and makes a painting of it in a few hours. Lucky for me she is going to help me this afternoon with some painting in the nursery! :)
Admirers of Susan's work. There was such a great turnout for the show! Both Jon and Susan felt very supported and encouraged.
Two more of Jon's canvases. These prints are 2 of his old favorites.
The last of Jon's canvases with some admirers. Several people were so surprised and impressed by this style of "photography." They did not expect to see this abstract expression in a photograph and the response to it was great.
The Buck Family at the end of the night. This canvas is my favorite. It is called "Redemption."
Oh how my feet hurt at this point...
Oh what is that there??????? Yep that's right! Jon sold 2 of his prints--one canvas and one 8x10 framed. We were so excited!! I expected his art to generate a positive response, but we NEVER expected to actually sell anything and especially on opening night!

So thus completes our first endeavors into the official art world. Way to go Jon and Susan!
